Introduction

Prof. P. Hammachukiattikul received her Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bangkok, Thailand. She is currently working as Vice-Director at Research Institute and dean of Mathematics at Phuket Rajabhat University (PKRU), Phuket, Thailand. Her research interests include mathematic model, climate change, atmospheric model, Lyapunov theory and neural networks, stability analysis of dynamical systems, synchronization, and chaos theory.

Visiting details

Under the Time-bound Pilot Project in collaboration with ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, she visited AP-TCRC to do the research about:

(a)Conduct literature review on understanding mechanisms and monitoring of rapid intensification (RI) of tropical cyclones (TCs).

(b)To verify performance in predicting for RI of near-landfall TCs over the western North Pacific from NWP deterministic models and ensemble prediction systems (EPSs).

(c)To determine spatial, monthly and long-term variations of RI of near-landfall TCs over the western North Pacific.

During the visit, she tried figure out relation of TCHP of tropical cyclone, relative humidity(850hPa and 700hPa) vertical wind shear and geopotential height that intensity of tropical cyclone increase which making landfall.
