Jointly Advancing Typhoon Science & Technology Cooperation in the Asia–Pacific Region
On 20 October 2025, Dr. TANG Jie, Director of the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center(AP-TCRC), led a delegation to Yokohama, Japan, and formally signed the MOU with Yokohama National University (YNU). The ceremony was held on the YNU campus, with Dr. Tang, Director of AP-TCRC, Scientific Director Dr. Robert Rogers and Chair of the ISSC Prof. CHAN Chung Leung Johnny, and YNU President Prof. Izuru Umehara and Director of the Typhoon Science and Technology Research Center (TRC) Prof. Hironori Fudeyasu signing and witnessing.
Under the agreement, the two sides will, in the next five years, carry out in-depth cooperation in:
Mutual visits of graduate students and research personnel
Joint academic conferences and joint scientific observation experiments
Development of new typhoon observation technologies and disaster-prevention & mitigation models
Joint publications and transformation of scientific results
A regular joint seminar mechanism will also be established.
During the visit, Dr. Tang and his delegation toured the TRC located within the YNU, and held thorough and lively discussions with relevant experts on future cooperation.
The signing marks the establishment of a long-term strategic partnership between AP-TCRC and YNU in the field of typhoon science, and will further enhance China-Japan international influence in typhoon research, contributing wisdom and solutions to global climate governance.
