WMO Secretary-General Prof. Celeste Saulo Visits Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center
On July 27, 2025, Prof. Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), along with WMO officials Mr. Nir Stav, Senior Director of the Infrastructure Department, Ms. Veronique Sylvie Bouchet, Senior Director of the Science and Innovation Department, and Ms. Yuki Honda, Chief WIPPS section of Infrastructure Department, visited the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (AP-TCRC).
Accompanied by Deputy Director Dr. Yu Zifeng, the delegation toured the exhibition gallery of the AP-TCRC and listened attentively to the presentation of achievements delivered by Director Tang Jie. The visitors expressed strong interest in the AP-TCRC’s international typhoon research collaborations, the Global Tropical Cyclone Data Center, the international joint typhoon observation experiments, the new-generation observation equipments, and the international journal Tropical Cyclone Research and Review, as well as in the industry and policy infrastructure of the Lin-gang Special Area. They looked forward to future cooperation in data sharing, joint development of equipment, and operational applications.
During the visit, the Secretary-General Prof. Celeste Saulo inscribed messages on behalf of the WMO Secretariat, extending heartfelt appreciation for the AP-TCRC’s contributions to global disaster risk reduction of tropical cyclones.
Among those present were Dr. Xu Xianghua, Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation at the China Meteorological Administration, Dr. Lei Xiaotu, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Meteorological Service, Dr. Yu Hui, Director of the Shanghai Typhoon Institute, Dr. Tang Jie, Director of the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center, and Dr. Yu Zifeng, Deputy Director of the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center.
